The Men of Color Action Network (MOCAN) stands in unwavering solidarity with our immigrant communities who are experiencing heightened fear and trauma as a result of the recent immigration raids taking place across California and throughout the United States.
As an organization rooted in racial equity, education, and empowerment, we recognize that these raids not only tear apart families but also threaten the safety, dignity, and futures of countless individuals—many of whom are students, educators, and community leaders. These actions deepen generational harm and reinforce the systemic oppression that so many of our communities continue to resist.
MOCAN affirms the humanity and worth of all people, regardless of immigration status. We uplift the resilience of undocumented, refugee, and mixed-status families, and we commit to creating spaces where they are seen, supported, and protected. We echo the calls of leaders demanding an end to inhumane enforcement practices and the implementation of policies that uphold justice and compassion.
To our communities affected by these raids: You are not alone. We are with you. We will continue to fight for your right to live, learn, and lead without fear.
As Paulo Freire reminded us, education is never neutral; it either functions to reinforce the conditions of oppression or becomes the practice of freedom. You are participating in the latter. Every class you take or teach, every question you ask, every time you help another student or colleague rise, you are shaping something beyond yourself.
In moments like these, solidarity must move beyond words and into action—collective, intentional, and informed.
We urge our members, allies, and educational institutions to take immediate action by:
Connecting students and families with legal resources, such as:
CARECEN: https://www.carecen-la.org/
CHIRLA: https://www.chirla.org
Find Your Ally: https://findyourally.com/
Immigrant Legal Resource Center: https://www.ilrc.org/
Immigrant Defenders Law Center: https://www.immdef.org/
United We Dream: https://unitedwedream.org/
Designating safe spaces and resource hubs on campuses and in community centers
Hosting know-your-rights workshops for students, staff, and families
Support the development of humane immigration policies and oppose raids that endanger our communities
Together, we will continue to build networks of safety, empowerment, and advocacy for all people of color—regardless of where they were born.
In solidarity,
MOCAN
